Important Information About Serum Collection
Does a lipemic or hemolyzed serum sample effect test results?
Yes. IgE is a serum component, and the presence of whole blood will interfere with assay reactions. Lipemic and hemolyzed specimens re quire additional processing by our lab to remove lipids and residual blood cells prior to testing. This process is costly and time consuming, and can lead to delayed results for your patient.
To avoid a delay in test results, due to additional processing time, check your serum specimen before you ship it to us. A rosy beige serum sample that is free of turbidity will yield the most accurate results.
As always, our goal is to provide you with the most accurate test results and treatment for your patient as quickly as possible. Our lab technicians are available by phone to answer any questions you may have when preparing a sample for testing. Call toll free 1-800-444-2370.
